DEPARTMENT OF EARTH SCIENCE

Academic Focus:

B.A./B.Sc. Geography

The programme started in 2021 enabled with space-based data and information Geography gives applicability and scope in diverse issues and fields of resources and infrastructure evaluation, planning and management decision supports for societal development and sustainable environment. The conceptual and theoretical ideas of Geography are blended with the scope of applications in diverse fields of interest in local, regional and global perspectives. The department as a part of USTM has made collaborations with NEIST, Jorhat, different R&D organizations, IITs, CRRI-New Delhi, Hi-Tec Ireland and many other universities.

M.A. Geography

The programme started in 2013 enabled with space-based data and information geography gives applicability and scope in diverse issues and fields of resources and infrastructure evaluation, planning and management decision supports for societal development and sustainable environment. The conceptual and theoretical ideas of geography are blended with the scope of applications in diverse fields of interest in local, regional and global perspectives. The department as a part of USTM has established in collaborations with NEIST, Jorhat, different R&D organizations, IITs, CRRI-New Delhi, Hi-Tec Ireland and many other universities.

M.Sc. Environmental Science:

Started in 2012 M.Sc Environmental Science is a multidisciplinary subject which is relevant to all other subjects and is applicable almost in every aspect of life. The department as a part of USTM has established collaborations with ISRO-NESAC, CSIR-NEIST, CRRI-New Delhi, Hi-Tec Ireland, IITs, many national and international universities and also many R&D organizations.

M.Sc. Geoinformatics:

The M.Sc. Geoinformatics program at USTM is a two-year interdisciplinary program for students who want to develop expertise in and apply geospatial technologies to solve the world’s most pressing real-world challenges in environmental, social, and economic domains. Geoinformatics is a rapidly evolving field that provides meaningful insights to solve real-world problems by integrating technologies and tools necessary for acquiring, exploring, visualizing, analyzing, and integrating various spatial data. Components of Geoinformatics include cartographic geovisualization, GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry, spatial statistics, geostatistics, multivariate statistics, and other advanced tools and techniques.
