Dr. Animesh Gogoi

Assistant Professor

Academic Qualifications: M.Sc., Ph.D.

Specializations:

  • Microbial Biotechnology
  • Plant Physiology and Biochemistry
  • Mycology & Plant Pathology

Research Background:

Having specialization in Mycology and Plant Pathology in M.Sc. has done Ph.D. on study of genetic diversity of biodiesel plant Jatropha curcas L. which is a most demanding natural source for biodiesel production. The study included molecular level study to understand the genetic composition of the plant accessions used for the study and physiological and biochemical study to understand the growth and yield of the plant and composition of the extracted oil to know the quality of the oil respectively. As a result a best grown accession has been identified and preserved for further growth and study under the agroclimatic zones of northeast India. Besides Ph.D. work, involved with different research project work dealt with microbial biotechnology. Studied genetic diversity of ecologically significant microbial groups namely flourescent pseudomonads and endophytic actinomycetes isolated from different plant parts to study their biological potentiality as plant growth promoters and biocontrol agents. Studies also involved identification of genes viz. PKS-I, II & III that responsible for production of chemicals which make the strain(s) as biocontrol agents. Different strains have also been isolated which act as best PGPR(s) and biocontrol agent(s) in different ways. Such strains are being preserved and continued study at different parameters under different research activities.
