USTM remembers Kalam on his 2nd death anniversary

On the occasion of the Second death anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the University of Science & Technology (USTM), Meghalaya and Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) remembered him in an assembly organized under the roof of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Block, an academic building of USTM dedicated in the memory of Dr Kalam. Hundreds of students, faculty members and high officials of both RIST and USTM paid homage to the Missile Man of India on this occasion. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Kalam had visited the campus of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya in July 2015 to grace the occasion of “North East College Principals’ Conclave” as the Chief Guest organized by the University & enlightened the audience with his magnificent personality. Dr. Kalam even promised the University authority that he would visit the campus once in every year. The entire university community and the members of the ERD Foundation fondly remembered Dr Kalam’s visit to the campus which was a great blessings and a boost to the emergence of the university as a vibrant higher educational venture in the region.
To commemorate the great contribution of the missile man of India and to carry forward the legacy of Dr Kalam, the 11th President of India, University of Science & Technology had decided to host Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture every year and accordingly the first memorial lecture was hosted on 17th September, 2016 at USTM Campus. The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Lecture Series is homage to the great thinker by having somebody to deliver the lecture who had worked with and inspired by Kalam. The speaker on the first memorial lecture was no other than a man from the heart of scientific research and innovation ISRO Chairman, Shri. A S Kiran Kumar who is keen to continue with the legacy of Dr. Kalam’s Vision 2020. The second Memorial lecture will be delivered by Prof. Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas, Director, Babha Atomic Research Centre Mumbai (BARC) to be held in the month of September 2017 at USTM on the topic Nuclear Power and Society at Techno city campus.
