USTM OBSERVES NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY-2021
India to be in the forefront of nuclear research soon – Dr. B J. Roy
Baridua, 9th Mile, Meghalaya, 11th May 2021: University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has celebrated the National Technology Day, 2021 to mark the historic feat of first nuclear tests at Pokhran in 1998. This successful test not only led India’s entry to elite group of nations with nuclear powers, but also stimulated country’s technological innovations and excellence in later stages.
In order to glorify the importance of science and technology in day to day life, and to motivate the students to adopt its pace in this time of pandemic, the Department of Physics, USTM had taken the lead to celebrate this historic day.
In this occasion, Dr. Bidyut Jyoti Roy, an eminent scientist from Bhaba Atomic Research Center (BARC), Mumbai has presented a talk on “Nuclear Physics Research: A Brief Overview”, emphasizing on recent scientific and technological developments in nuclear research worldwide. Introducing the audience to various state-of-the-art nuclear research facilities in India, he mentioned that India is to lead the world in nuclear research in coming days. Dr. Roy also talked about the research and internship facilities available for researchers and students at BARC, and influenced the students to get some early exposures of research, through it. The program was also graced by honorable Vice-Chancellor of USTM, Prof. G.D. Sharma, along with the faculty members, and the students the university.
