Celebration of International Day of Cooperatives
Baridua, 9th Mile, Meghalaya, 3rd July 2021: Department of Commerce, USTM celebrates International Day of Cooperatives. To commemorate the event, the Department organized a Webinar on ‘Cooperatives: Importance and Its Role in the Covid-19 pandemic’. The webinar was resourced by Dr. Kh Soromendro Singh, Director, Institute of Cooperative Management, Guwahati. The webinar was graced by Prof. GD Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, USTM, and Prof Amit Choudhury, Dean, School of Business Sciences. The webinar was also attended by all the faculty members of the Department, in-house students and as well research scholars. The numbers of participants, other than the participants affiliated to USTM were around 150 in numbers.
The webinar begins with the welcome address by Dr. Abdur Rashid, Head, Department of Commerce and Convenor of the webinar. The welcome address was followed by a speech by Hon’ble VC, USTM, and Dean, SBUS. After that, Dr. Singh, the resource person delivers his talk on the select theme. After Dr. Singh’s lecture, a Questions and Answers session was organised. It was followed by a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Maumita Choudhury. The webinar was moderated by Subash Limbu, the Joint Convenor of the webinar.
The Department has also organised an essay writing competition among the UG and PG students on the theme ‘Challenges before Cooperatives in the context of the present day e-commerce regime’. We received more than 50 entries and decided to give top three entries prizes and certificates. We also decided to give certificate of appreciation to the next five best entries. Results of the essay competition will be formally declared soon.
