Rabindra Jayanti Celebrated at USTM

Cultural Forum of USTM celebrating 158th Rabindranath Jayanti on Thurseday, 9th May 2019

9th Mile, Ri Bhoi, 10 May 2019: The 158th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated yesterday at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya with great fervor. The function was organized by the Cultural Forum of USTM. Ms Mouchumi Sikhdar, a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer was the chief guest on the occasion. The function was addressed by Dr PK Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Dr Balendra Kumar Das, Director Administration, and Dr RK Sharma, Advisor USTM, and attended by faculty members and a large number of students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr PK Goswami said that there is much relevance of Rabindranath’s ideology and thinking in the present day India since he was the thinker who thought much ahead of his time. He asked the students to explore the multifaceted Nobel laureate who has contribution in almost all sphere of knowledge.

In his address, Dr Balendra Kumar Das deliberated on the literary contribution of Rabindranath Tagore Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Focusing on the lyricist Tagore, he said that Tagore had a song for every moment and emotion of human life.

The programme was enriched with performance of Rabindra Sangeet and poems by USTM students and Chief Guest Ms Mouchumi Sikhdar. It concluded with the vote of thanks by Polly Borgohain, Cultural Convenor of the university.
