Professor Dr. K. MURUGAN has been identified as one of the top 2% scientists in the world in the field of Mycology and Parasitology based on the citations of  his research publications by other scientists. A recent research article entitled ‘Updated Science-wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators’ by Professors John P.A. Loannidis, Kevin W. Boyack and Jeroen Baas belonging to Stanford University, USA, published in a reputed journal PLOS BIOLOGY {18(10): e3000918; 16 Oct. 2020} has analysed the contributions of more than one lakh scientists for their impact making research publications in the field of particular subject. They used various assessment parameters such as total number of papers published in SCOPUS indexed journals, total number of citations, h-index and hm index. They analysed 1, 13,961 scientists from all over the world. He ranked 124th position in the world.  He has published over 460 peer-reviewed papers in reputed National and International journals besides two books. He has graduated around 10 Postdoctoral, 55 Doctoral Scholars 65 Masters in Philosophy Researchers and 100 Post Graduate Students. He currently supervises 3 Ph.D. students and he is a reviewer and Editor of many International journals as well. His recent citations 13980; h-index: 64 and i10-index: 282 and his cumulative impact factor more than 1000.  Formerly,  Senior Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, and Registrar, i/c, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, South India and formerly Vice-Chancellor at Thiruvalluvar University (State University), Vellore, TN, India during 2016-2019 (3 years).    Vice-Chairman of Tamil Nadu, Science and Technology Centre, Chennai, India. Awarded JSPS Scientist Invitation fellowship from Japan (ecosystem studies) (2015), and 100 Talent Award, Shanxi University, China, 2017 (stem cell biology and nanotechnology).
