Online summer training ‘G-STEP’ launched
23rd June, Ri-bhoi, Meghalaya: ‘G-STEP’, a two month online summer training programme for college students has been officially launched by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya today in an unparalleled move to boost the academic and career progression of UG final year students of the Northeastern region amidst this crucial period of COVID 19. ‘Graduate Summer training for Educational Progression’ (G-STEP) has been mainly developed to provide the students a stimulating stage where they can exercise their talent under the mentorship of highly competent faculty members using various online platforms. G-STEP has been officially launched today via a facebook live session attended by Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, Dr. Mridul Hazarika ,VC, USTM, Mrs. Mehjabeen Rahman, Principal Secretary, USTM and Dr. Alpana Choudhury, Director, Students Affairs, USTM. Any Undergraduate final semester students from all the streams having minimum 50 % marks in their last semester examination are eligible to apply for this training programme. A stipend of Rs. 500 will be provided per month to all the selected trainees. Addressing the viewers via a facebook live session during the launching ceremony today, USTM Chancellor Shri Hoque said, “To proactively create an environment to engage and connect students to bring forth opportunities for higher studies, developing research abilities along with triggering innovations and creativity is the main motto of G-STEP.” He further mentioned, “The training programme will definitely provide the students an exciting path towards fostering their academic progression and achieving excellence in their own disciplines of study.” Dr. Mridul Hazarika, VC, USTM, said, “This summer training program will expose the UG final year students to the emerging trend of research, societal needs and industrial demands.” “Creating a sense of positivity and confidence among the students during this crucial period of time due to Covid 19 will be the another highlight of this training”, he added. The selection process will be based on merit and availability of seats. Interested students will have to apply online for which the last date of Registration is 8th July, 2020.
