AMU Centenary celebrated at USTM

Baridua, 9th Mile, Ribhoi, Meghalaya, 24th January 2021, Sunday: In order to mark the 100 Glorious years of Academic Excellence (1920-2020) of the Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Foundation Northeast India in collaboration with the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya and ERD Foundation Guwahati organized AMU Centenary Celebration at the USTM campus here today. The event which was celebrated with the theme of ‘Revisiting Sir Syed’s Vision & taking the legacy forward’ was graced by eminent dignitaries including Prof Tariq Mansoor,VC, AMU, Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Former VC, AMU, Prof. DP Agarwal, Former Chairman, UPSC, Prof GD Sharma, VC, USTM, Prof. MM Sufyan Beg, Principal, ZHCET and Chairman, Alumni Affairs, AMU,Aligarh, Shri Pradeep Kumar, IPS, ADGP(Retd), Assam and a Galaxy of other notable Alumni of AMU.
The inaugural session of the event began with the welcome address by Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM who himself is an alumnus of AMU. Overwhelmed by the tremendous response of the AMU alumni from all over the country and abroad towards the event, he said, “It is our responsibility to carry forward the legacy of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.” “Sir Syed’s role in developing modern education in the modern society can never never be forgotten,” he added. The USTM Chancellor’s address was followed by a warm speech by the IPS officer from Assam Shri Pradeep Kumar. The Keynote address was delivered by Prof MM Sufyan Beg who was present as the Guest of Honour at the event. He remembered Sir Syed by speaking about the importance of modern education and mentioned, “ A society can never progress without the acquisition of western education and science.” He further said,“. It should be the basic duty of every AMU alumnus to strive for eliminating the ignorance, superstitions and evil customs prevalent in the society by achieving excellence in the field of modern education and science.” The inaugural address was given by the AMU VC Prof Tariq Mansoor and was followed by a speech by the USTM VC Prof G.D. Sharma. “ALIG EAST,” a souvenir of the Centenary celebration was released together by the dignitaries.
After the inaugural session, a panel discussion was held on the main theme of the event which was followed by an hour long technical session on replication of Sir Syed’s vision and the role of Alumni. The celebration came to an end with the AMU ‘Tarana’ followed by the National Anthem.
