USTM, September 21, 2017: Keeping in view the theme of International Peace Day for 2017 “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya has observed the International Peace Day today at techno city where the people from all faiths have addressed a large number of students in presence of higher administrative officials of the university and the faculty members.
“There is a higher court than courts of justice, and that is the court of conscience. It supersedes all other courts.” quoting Mahatma Gandhi Shri Mahbubul Hoque Chancellor USTM urged the students to develop a mindset of love and respect for each other so that peace can be retained in the society. He further stated that, “We must work for peace and brotherhood for inclusive progress”.
The religious guides from various faiths have urged the students to understand the importance of retaining peace and harmony in the world. They said that the youth of this nation can contribute immensely for mainlining peace in the country as it is directly related to the development and prosperity of the nation.
The International Day of Peace is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”
