USTM observed International Yoga Day 2021
“Yoga is the best medicine during Covid pandemic”-Dr. H.R. Pandey
Guwahati, 22nd June, 2021: The Department of Physiotherapy & NSS Cell of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya observed the International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2021 by organising an Online Yoga Demonstration programme on the theme “Be with Yoga, Be at Home” along with a talk on Yoga and its benefits through a zoom meeting at 6.30 am in the morning which was live in facebook.
The programme was graced by Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Hon’ble VC Prof G D Sharma, Advisor Dr. R. K. Sharma and other high officials of administration, faculty members and students.
The Guest Speaker of the day was Dr Hare Ram Pandey, Asst Prof, Dept of Yoga, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, who is the recipient of Chikitsa Ratna Award.
Live Yoga demonstration for 45 minutes was carried out by Dr Golak Ranjan Upadhyaya, Yoga expert cum Naturopathy and Senior Accupuncturist from Aarogyadham Naturopathy & Panchkarma Hospital.
On the occasion, the Hon’ble Chancellor said as the world is passing through the COVID-19 pandemic, in this situation, it is hard for people to remain mentally and physically fit and healthy. Hence, a strong body immune system is the only available cure that we should embrace for which yoga is the best support.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor also emphasised the importance of Yoga and the pivotal role it plays in rejuvenating our mind and the body, leading to a healthier lifestyle.
Dr. H. R. Pandey, in his speech said that yoga not only provides physical and mental relaxation but also develops strength and resilience. The numerous benefits of yoga make it a popular practice for people across the globe, especially in times of a pandemic when mental and physical health is under stress. Hence the theme of International Yoga Day focuses upon telling people to stay motivated at home and adopt a healthy lifestyle by doing exercise and yoga.
