The Department of Botany deals with micro and macro flora. The Department is established with an aim of empowering quality education to every section of the society and research based on recent developments in Botany. The exceptionality of the department lies in the fact that inside the department, there are dedicated and experienced faculties representing almost every section of modern Botany. The department provides the best quality teaching to post graduate students where teachers are specialized in their respective fields. The research thrust areas of the department are Floristic studies of North-Eastern region with special reference to orchids, Stress physiology, Pharmacology, Biodiversity conservation, Forest ecology, Ecosystem research, Limnology, Algology, AM fungal diversity, Plant microbe interaction, Bioremediation and Cytogenetics. The department has made collaborations with CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, NIT Silchar, Tezpur University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Universitas Ngurah Rai, Indonesia, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS), CRRI-New Delhi, Hi-Tec Ireland and many other universities to provide students, research scholars and teachers a platform to share their ideas and explore the recent developments in plant science and also to share the modern technical facilities. The department also organizes seminars, workshops, fieldtrips and excursions for overall development of the student.
