Faculty Development Program
completed successfully at USTM

Entrepreneurship Development Institute India (EDI) and University of Science and
Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) have jointly organized a two week long faculty
development program on Entrepreneurship Development from March 18 to 1st April
2, 2015 which concludes today. Shri Kamruddin Ahmed the Advisor of EDI graced
the valedictory session and distributed the certificates among the participant’s
teachers of the program.
Shri Kamruddin Ahmed while addressing the gathering suggested that the
university to create a ‘open lab’ where the students from various disciplines
can share their entrepreneurial and creative ideas with the faculty members
which will act as a germination ground for entrepreneurial development in this
region. Emphasizing on the philanthropic contribution of the faculty members
Shri Ahmed highlighted the need for voluntary contribution from them towards
implanting the seeds of entrepreneurial zeal in the minds of the youth of this
region. He further stressed on the need for self sustainable social welfare
programs thus social entrepreneurship. Shri Ahmed said that the unemployment
problem in the NE region is alarming thus the need of the hour is to create
entrepreneurs in the region not only to mitigate the unemployment scenario but
for all round economic development.
The Chancellor USTM, Mr M Hoque narrated the definition of entrepreneurship
saying that it is the ‘ ordinarily people with extraordinary ideas with
determination and passion’. He further expressed his desire to avail more
cooperation and association with EDI in future for the entrepreneurship
development of the youth of the region.
The aim of organizing the twelve days faculty development program was to create
awareness of entrepreneurial opportunities and supporting and sustaining
entrepreneurial behavior among the students and also urged the participants to
become more entrepreneurial teachers in the present day situation. The resource
persons from various fields have delivered useful insight to the participants.
Dr R M Pant, Director NIRD, Mr Anupam Dutta, Project Officer SIRD, Dr Sunil
Saikia, former Director, IIE have shared their valuable suggestions with the
participants.
The training programme started off with scientifically designed Schedule &
Exercise to break the mental as well as physical blocks and build
self-confidence amongst the participants. Assignments, to facilitate the
teachers to be more action oriented and focused after the programme were
designed for the participants who realized that the exercise had opened up their
mind to come closer to each other. During the programme period a visit was also
arranged to Bitchem.
