2nd NE NSS Festival of
Meghalaya successfully conducted at USTM

May 2, 2015: The 2nd North East NSS Festival of the state of Meghalaya & 10th in
North East, a programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of
India in collaboration with the Dept. of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of
Meghalaya with the theme “BONDING BEYOND BORDERS” was held at University of
Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) from April 28, 2015 to May 2, 2015. The
festival was inaugurated by Dr. D. D. Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of
Meghalaya in a glittering ceremony in presence of three hundred fifty
participants from all over the North East. The Inaugural Ceremony was preceded
by a colourful Cultural Procession which was flagged off the Dr. Lapang. The
participants from all the eight North Eastern states were welcomed by the
student representatives of those particular states studying at USTM & RIST
during the cultural procession. More than two thousand students joined in the
rally.
Dr. D. D. Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya greeted the
participating students and encouraged them to go ahead in life by attending and
participating in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which will not
only help the youth community to build up friendship and strong bonding among
them to make India as one of the most powerful democracy. These types of events
also help the youths both in their cultural as well as professional growth. He
urged to the participants as “Give the best to the world & the best will come
back to you”. He also asked them to be trustworthy to their parents, teachers
and ultimately to the nation. He also quoted “Everybody can win if they dare to
win.”
The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya (Education) and Chairman, NE NSS
Festival Shri C C M Mihsil, IAS delivered the welcome address in the inaugural
session. Shri Sunil Basumatary, Youth Officer of NE NSS Unit explained the
significance and purpose of the NE NSS Festival to the participants. He narrated
the success story of NSS volunteers as very good leaders of the country. He also
expressed that these 5 days stay in the beautiful campus of USTM will be an
unique experience to the NSS volunteers. Also present on the occasion as the
Guest of Honour was Mr. Dilip Saikia, the Vice Chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra
Sangathan. Mr. M. Hoque, Chancellor of USTM, in his speech thanked the
Government of Meghalaya for selecting the campus of the University as the venue
for the festival. The Souvenir of the 2nd NE NSS Festival was released and the
IGNSS awardees were also felicitated in the Inaugural Ceremony by the Chief
Guest Dr. D. D. Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya.
The valedictory function on 2nd May was presided over by Shri R. S. Mooshahary,
former Governor of Meghalaya where the chief guest was Mr. Justine Dkhar,
Parliamentary Secretary, Dept of Education, Govt. of Meghalaya. Shri Mooshahary,
in his speech said that the theme of the event has been rightly quoted as
bonding beyond borders. Mr. Justine Dkhar highly appreciated the efforts taken
by the host University to make this festival a grand success.
